All are welcome. Come as you are and experience the love and grace of God.
Sharon Baptist Church has stood at 827 Forest Avenue in the Bronx since 1956 — a house of faith, hope, and healing in the heart of the community. For nearly seven decades, we have been a place where lives are transformed by the power of God's Word.
Under the visionary leadership of our 5th Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Miles Travis Boyd, Jr., we are continuing a rich legacy of worship, community service, and spiritual growth. We believe the church exists not just within these walls — but in every street, every home, and every heart we touch.
"I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth."
— Psalm 34:1 | Our Pastor's Life ScriptureWe are Sharon Baptist Church — united in purpose, growing in faith, and passionate about building God's Kingdom right here in the Bronx and beyond.
To bring the unsaved to Jesus and into membership in His family — nurturing each one through discipleship and spiritual growth.
Develop, cultivate, and nurture the spiritual growth of every believer through the teaching and preaching of God's Word.
We believe God has called us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and meet the community where they are — no questions asked.
To comfort the bereaved and lonely, providing a place of refuge, prayer, and healing for all who are hurting.
Since 1956, five faithful pastors have shepherded this congregation through decades of growth, challenge, and transformation.
In the heart of the 1950s, a division within a Baptist church in Harlem gave birth to two congregations. From that moment, Sharon Baptist Church was set on its own unique journey of purpose, faith, and resilience.
Under Rev. T.H. Washington, the congregation found their home — an old Jewish synagogue at 827 Forest Avenue in the Bronx, purchased in 1956 through faith, sacrifice, and determination. Rev. Washington pastored faithfully until his passing in 1959.
In 1961, God sent Rev. Dr. George W. Criss from Los Angeles. For 15 years, he transformed Sharon into a center of spiritual growth. Among his greatest legacies: the Sharon Baptist Church Head Start School, born of President Johnson's "War on Poverty" initiative in 1964 — 60 children, 8 staff, and a vision for education in the Bronx.
In 1977, Dr. Hubert Lee Reaves, Sr. — raised up from within the congregation — became the third pastor. His 40-year ministry was marked by compassion, depth, and service. He shepherded the church until his passing on June 5, 2017.
Pastor Keynon Jackson, the 4th pastor, led the church through its first major renovation and even through its first fire — spiritually and physically rebuilding the church over 6 years before being called to Georgia.
On November 24, 2024, the members unanimously elected Rev. Dr. Miles Travis Boyd, Jr. as the 5th Senior Pastor. Already overseeing a major renovation and breathing fresh vision into the congregation, Dr. Boyd leads Sharon Baptist Church boldly into a new chapter — Rooted in History, Growing, Building, and Pursuing God's Kingdom.
Purchased the old Jewish synagogue at 827 Forest Avenue through faith and sacrifice. Laid the foundation of a church grounded in service and vision.
Led for 15 years. Founded the Sharon Baptist Church Head Start School in 1964, nurturing 60 children ages 3–5 through the "War on Poverty" initiative.
A son of the church who served 40 extraordinary years. Licensed 19 into ministry, birthed countless community organizations. Passed June 5, 2017.
